Travel & Tourism BTEC National Extended Certificate

Equivalent to one A Level

This course is for those wishing to learn about the Travel & Tourism industry as part of a balanced programme of study.

It is a two year programme equivalent to one A Level.

What does the course involve?

You will develop the skills needed to examine, interpret and analyse a variety of statistics that measure the importance of the industry in the UK. You will investigate the features, appeal of different global destinations, visitor attractions and events. You will also explore how to develop a successful marketing plan for a travel and tourism organisation.

Three compulsory units include:

  • The World of Travel and Tourism
  • Global Destinations
  • Principles of Marketing in Travel and Tourism

Students can choose from the following units:

  • Visitor Attractions
  • Events, Conferences, and Exhibitions.

Trips

A variety of trips and visits will be organised, some of which will be compulsory. These include:

  • Theme park.
  • Local Tourism Visits.
  • Bristol Zoo.
  • Big Pit.
  • PGL.
  • Blackpool.
  • A short haul destination - London or Europe.
  • A long haul trip - New York.

What can you do after the course?

This course is for students wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education or to employment, possibly in the travel and tourism, business, enterprise or management sectors.
