Specialists in Sixth Form Education
Sixth form colleges were described as the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of the educational system by the Chief Inspector of Schools. As a result of specialising in 16-19 teaching they are able to provide excellent resources and teaching, resulting in outstanding outcomes for students. They are also an excellent stepping stone from school to university or employment.
I feel that coming to Hereford Sixth Form College was the best decision I've ever made. It is so diverse and the tutors are extremely friendly and supportive. There is a huge choice of subjects. There is more freedom than at school and it is a more grown-up environment. The opportunities for extra curricular activities, trips, travelling, and talks and the support with further education and job opportunities are amazing.
At Hereford there are over 40 subjects from which to select your study programme and subjects can be studied in almost any combination. Any restrictions on course combinations are as a result of advice from the exam boards.
A survey of sixth form education by the National Audit Office in 2012 concluded, ‘Sixth form colleges perform best on most measures of learner achievement’. In the same year, research published by Southampton University and featured in the Times newspaper stated, ‘Students at sixth form colleges are significantly more likely to achieve top grades at A level than those who stay on at their schools. Due to their specialised nature sixth form colleges have developed high levels of expertise.’
