Biology, Economics, Government & Politics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, General Studies
Hereford Sixth Form College has an incredible record for pushing its students to reach their full academic potential. Its A Level results and the number of students the College sends to Oxbridge each year made it an easy choice for me.
Former school: Lucton
Studied: A Level Biology, Economics, Further Mathematics, General Studies, Government & Politics, Mathematics
Now studying: Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Magdalen College, Oxford
The College is a much larger institution than my secondary school, something I found very appealing. It also has modern facilities.
I was treated as a young adult at sixth form and as such, was given more freedom and a greater ability to express my own opinions and shape my own learning.
I was part of the Debating Society and the Academic Discussion Group which presented opportunities to hone debating and analytical skills.
With Economics I went to several conferences in Bristol which were held in the run up to exams, which made for excellent revision. I also travelled to Paris for the annual European Conference.
Hereford Sixth Form College helped me immeasurably in achieving my goal of reading PPE at Oxford. I received copious guidance from tutors on how best to prepare myself for the application process and how to make my application stand out. I was given practice interviews, aided through the completion of my EPQ and was given the opportunity to attend two politics study days at Oxford University colleges as well as a week long PPE summer school at Magdalen College, Oxford, through the suggestion and encouragement of my tutors. The incredibly high calibre of the teaching and knowledge of the staff on how to extract the full potential from each student also meant that I had no problem achieving my offer grades.
I really do feel that I owe an awful lot of my success in gaining a place at Oxford to the support and encouragement I received from Hereford Sixth Form College.
