Elin Grace

Hereford Sixth Form College alumni, Elin Grace has recently released her debut EP ‘Bee Without Wings’, featuring lead single ‘Breathe’. Elin recorded and produced her EP in the College recording studio with the assistance of the College’s Theatre Manager, Oscar Featherstone, who is himself a keen musician.

‘Bee Without Wings’ blends quirky piano ballads with jazz fusion influences, complete with lyrics about love, coming of age and self-esteem. In Elin’s own words: “The first song I wrote on the EP was Doll, when I was twelve, and the most recent song is Breathe, at eighteen, so the EP really tells the story of my teenage years. It reflects themes of being insecure in a relationship, but finding confidence and self-expression whilst also finding love… This EP feels like my first little body of work, and I’ll always have that. It’s a diary of my teenage experience.”

The EP was mixed by famed American producer Tchad Blake, who has worked with musicians such as Tracy Chapman, Fiona Apple, and the Arctic Monkeys. His magic touch is apparent throughout. Elin says “Working with Oscar and Tchad was really great. Oscar made me feel really involved; he had a great approach and a clean sound. He’s an amazing bassist too. Tchad brought that signature Tchad Blake sound, helping spice the songs up a little bit.”

Elin is an independent singer-songwriter from Llandrindod Wells, in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Her lyrics draw from her own experience, while her melodies and instrumentation blend her classical piano training with her passion for pop, rock, soul, and indie. She has been writing and performing her own music since 2017 and was taken on by the PRS Foundation backed talent development scheme ‘Forté Project’ in 2021. She loves playing live and has previously supported incredible acts such as Mari Mathias, MACY and The Trials of Cato, as well as playing at festivals like Landed and HUB. She’s also recently begun playing at Cardiff venues such as Porters, Clwb Ifor Bach and Tiny Rebel. Her last single, ‘Teacup Lady’, was last played on BBC Radio 6 when Welsh DJ Adam Walton tipped her as “one to watch out for” for 2022.
