Laura Bates, founder of the Everyday Sexism website and author of the bestselling book of the same name recently visited Hereford Sixth Form College. Her talk was attended by over 100 students.  Jonathan Godfrey, Principal said “Laura was one of the most interesting and inspirational visiting speakers we have ever had. Not only did she cover the evidence suggesting that despite equality legislation, the treatment of women in Britain is still shameful but provided practical advice on tackling the issue individually and collectively”.

Beth Ramsay a student at the College said “It was fascinating to hear how the Everyday Sexism website began and grew to be a worldwide phenomenon.  Laura’s incredibly passionate yet pragmatic talk was inspiring and placed feminism in a modern context”.  Laura Bates was in Hay-on-Wye to discuss her appearance at the forthcoming Literary Festival and her visit was arranged by Festival Director, Peter Florence.
