The College is only open to our most vulnerable students (including those on EHCPs, or who are in care or have a social worker) and the children of key workers. All lessons will continue to run virtually for all students. The College opens at 9am. Please notify us before 10.30am if you wish to access the College past 12 noon so we can ensure facilities and access are available. The government has published a letter explaining how the summer grades will be calculated. The letter has been emailed to you and a link is in the news section of this website.

Mathematics for Life

This is an exciting new course that complements and supports core subject choices as well providing life and employability skills. It allows you to continue to study Mathematics at Level 3 without having to commit completely to an entire A Level.  It counts as the same number of UCAS points as an AS Level and is widely accepted by universities and future employers.

The focus is on applied mathematics - there is no algebra or trigonometry. Topics include:

  • Financial Mathematics
  • Modelling
  • Probabilities
  • Collecting and Analysing Data
  • Finding Patterns in Data

An example question might be 'Work out the income tax, national insurance and student loan repayments for someone earning £52,000'.

The course lasts one academic year and is taught over two hours per week. There are two external examinations in the summer, both 90 minutes long. Both examinations have preliminary material that is released in March where real-life examples of data and information are given to students that are then used as the basis of questions in the examination.
