HPV VACCINATIONS
The School Nursing Service will be at Hereford Sixth Form College again on the below dates to offer all girls in Year 12 and 13 their next HPV Vaccine. YOU MUST STAY WITHIN YOUR CHOSEN PROGRAMME. PROGRAMME A: 10th March and 11th August, PROGRAMME B: 24th March and 25th August. All sessions are in rooms 001/002 from 2.00 until 5.00 p.m. Further information/advice from the School Nursing Co-ordinator (01432) 347647.

EXAM RESULTS
Results from the January exams are released tomorrow, Thursday 11th March. There is very little time between this and the deadline for entries for the summer exams. If you do need to re-sit any units, please ensure that you see your subject tutor to discuss this and to sign the form that they will have. You need to do this by next Tuesday, 16th March. If you require a re-mark or a photocopy of your script, information is available on the VLE. Please complete the downloadable form and bring this and the appropriate fee to the Exams Office as soon as possible.
THE DEBATE SOCIETY PRESENTS: The Problem with Jerusalem
an overview of the Arab-Israeli conflict
Speaker Stanley Rowe spent 6 months in Palestine as a Human Rights observer will deliver a talk on the endemic problem in the Middle East. The issue is multi-faceted, relating to Human Rights, International Security, Terrorism and Poverty. This is a must for all students of Politics, History, Sociology, Theology & Journalism. Thursday, 11th March in room 001 at 1.15pm.

1ST AND 2ND YEAR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN MEDIA/JOURNALISM
On Friday, 26th March the College will be hosting a high profile visit by Kevin Bakhurst, Controller of the BBC News Channel and News at One. If you would like to meet Kevin to discuss the role and output of the BBC or listen to his advice on journalism please give your names to the Careers Department as soon as possible. 1ST AND 2ND YEARS MEDIA AND JOURNALISM GROUP
Please note that ALL Portfolios containing the articles or creative writing need to be handed in by Monday, 15th. This is so that they can be checked and verified in order to receive the completion certificate on March 26th. Please leave them with Marco Martinelli in the Law and Politics office with your name on the folder.

Here are the winners for each category: Children's/Teen Book = Twilight, Children's/Teen Author = JK Rowling, Adult Book = Pride and Prejudice, Adult Author = Terry Pratchett. CARDIFF UNIVERSITY OPEN DAY
The Careers Department will be taking two coaches to Cardiff Open Day on WEDNESDAY, 21ST APRIL. There will be talks, tours, displays and demonstrations by all the academic schools, including a tour of the Heath Park Campus for prospective medics, dentists, nurses, midwives and healthcare students. Cost is £7.00. Please collect a consent form from the Careers Department and return it with the money BEFORE THE END OF TERM to Mrs Edwards. You will then be allocated a place on the coach. PLEASE NOTE: Cardiff does not offer Degrees in Sport and the only Geography Degrees are Marine Geography or Human Geography with Planning.

EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION
For 1st year students during the summer holidays
Are you interested in gaining half an A2 qualification in the new Extended Project? (To be completed during the summer holidays). There will be a meeting for anyone interested in finding out more about this qualification on Tuesday, 16th March at 1.15 p.m. in SH6/7. Come along and find out more!
FREE SUMMER SCHOOLS FOR FIRST YEARS
Bright students from backgrounds with no experience of higher education may be eligible for free summer school events at Universities in the West Midlands Area. These will give you a flavour of university life and give you support with the application process. If you think this might be for you, please see the careers section of the VLE under Aimhigher-Unifest. The Closing date is 1st April so you will need to read the documents and register as soon as possible. Do this in plenty of time as you will need support from your teachers, references etc. prior to this date. Contact algr@hereford.ac.uk with any questions.
GRAFFITI
Please do not write or draw on the desks or benches in any room. The Pavilion benches have just been sanded down to remove graffiti. If there is more graffiti the Pavilion may be closed. Students caught damaging College property will be charged and face disciplinary procedures.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
On Friday, 12th March, Herefordshire College of Technology will have an official opening of their new buildings. Sixth Form College students should be aware that they will not be able to use the facilities in the refectory on this day.
NOT GOT YOUR MOTHER'S DAY CARD YET?
There will be the opportunity to make your own Mother's day Cards outside the pavilion on Tuesday lunchtime, Wednesday break and Thursday lunchtime this week. Make your Mother a wonderful individual card in less that 5 minutes for the cost of 50p.
SMOKING AREA
Smokers must not encroach on to the staff car park area. Smokers should stay in the section which has been fenced off. If this is full you should spread out along the area adjacent to the green fence.
TABLE TENNINS TOURNAMENT
There will be a table tennis tournament for any interested students on Tuesday lunchtimes, starting on 23rd March. Entry forms are available from Matt or Hannah in the PE office. Closing date for entries is Friday, 19th March. Players of any standard are welcome.
THINKING OF APPLYING TO BIRMINGHAM UNIVERSITY?
Any first years whose parents have not been to university or who have been in care o whose parents/carers do not have professional occupations etc. and have GOOD GCSE’s may be eligible for free residential summer schools at Birmingham University. Please look at the careers section on the VLE under Aimhigher/Birmingham summer schools. Closing date is 1st June. Contact algr @hereford.ac.uk fro more details or see you emails if you are already on the Aimhigher register.

If you are interested in applying for apprenticeships that start in the summer, you need to come and see me now! Make an appointment by adding your name to the yellow Connexions booking sheet on the College Careers Library notice board or drop in and see me on a Tuesday or Thursday (room 015). UCAS EXTRA
If you have used all five choices on your application form but have been rejected by all of your universities, then book a careers interview to discuss your options. One option is UCAS Extra (starting from 25th February), which allows you to apply to another university and is done online through Track.
