student life
Music
Hereford Sixth Form College enjoys an excellent reputation for music and drama. Many students participate in a wide range of activities producing outstanding performances in a variety of styles. All students are encouraged to participate (including behind the scenes) regardless of previous experience. Recent performances and productions include Cabaret, Gregory's Girl, Jesus Christ Superstar, Handel's Messiah, Fauré's Requiem, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Sweeney Todd and Teechers as well as performances of students' own writing.
Whatever your musical style or ability, you will find an appropriate group at the College to join. We have a full symphony orchestra, choir, concert band, big band and numerous small groups. Most years we put on a major choral work with neighbouring schools, and we regularly put on concerts in classical, pop and jazz styles. There is also a biannual joint musical production with the Drama & Theatre Studies Department.
All students are welcome and, besides the pleasure of making music, you will find many other benefits in taking part including:
- developing teamwork skills and social confidence;
- enjoyment and relaxation outside your academic studies;
- a great addition to your CV and applications to both higher education and the world of work, showing you to be a cultured and organised individual;
- opportunities to take part in successful public performances;
- regular concert tours outside the UK (these have included Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Austria and the Czech Republic).
