Learning Support
The College welcomes all students with a disability or learning difficulty. Please ensure that we are aware of any disabilities, learning difficulties or medical conditions you may have, so that we can make all reasonable adjustments to help you succeed.
The application form has a section relating to disability, learning difficulties and medical conditions. Please make sure you add your details in order that we can discuss your support needs with you.
Our objective is to enable all students to access the College curriculum and to reach their potential. In some cases this may mean making special provision.
Additional Learning Support is provided by a specialist qualified team, subject to assessment and agreement of individual needs.
Referrals
Students are encouraged to self refer. You may also be referred, with your permission, by tutors or parents.
Support for your Studies
We can arrange one-to-one support or group classes. These are open to all students and can be tailored to meet individual needs. For instance, we could help you with:
- exam techniques and revision skills;
- literacy and numeracy skills;
- prioritising and organising your work;
- coursework support;
- general guidance and support.
Study Skills
Study Skills workshops are offered to all students at College. These workshops aim to support students who would like to improve their academic study skills in a relaxed and friendly environment. Some workshops take place at lunchtime and others at a regular set time on each day of the week.
Access Arrangements
We can also carry out assessment for all access arrangements for examinations, such as extra time and word processing. Further details of what is available can be found in the booklet Supporting Your Learning 2009-10 which is available from the College Office.
Specialist Support
We have a wide range of external contacts. For example, if you have a visual or hearing impairment, we can organise specialist help or we can make referrals to an educational psychologist.
ESOL
If English is not your first language, we can provide extra tuition to develop your language skills.
If you would like to discuss your learning Support needs, please ask to speak to Jenny Hall, Head of Learning Support.
