Prospective Students: Student Life

Drama

Drama groupStudents at Hereford Sixth Form College have a wealth of opportunities to get involved in all aspects of Drama. The student-run Upstage Production Company takes responsibility for the planning, running and organisation of all musical theatre and drama productions. All students have the opportunity to join this committee - in roles including president, stage manager, costume and props team, finance officer, publicity team, lighting and sound operation, design, running the front of house, ticket sales and refreshments. Students interested in the technical aspects of theatre - lighting, sound and set design have the opportunity to join the Upstage Tech Crew and receive training in how to operate and run the technical side of a large cast production. Upstage meet once a week on Wednesday afternoons at 1.30pm in the Performing Arts Centre.

For those wishing to perform, a wide variety of options are available. In the autumn term the whole College production occurs. In previous years this has seen sell-out productions including the musicals Sweet Charity, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, the American Musicals Showcase and the large cast playsTeechers, Gregory’s Girl and the Comedy Sketches Showcase. Auditions for these productions are open to all students, regardless of experience. Just turn up and have a go!

For the more dramatically minded, the Theatre Studies department offers all College students the chance to improve their own acting skills by participating in the Grade Exams Scheme. You are offered coaching in acting, built into your own timetable, to prepare for an individual acting exam based on the delivery of monologues which can count towards UCAS points. If you are interested in this opportunity you should approach the Drama and Theatre Studies department directly.
