Study Skills Workshops

Study Skills workshops will start again on Thursday, 2 February at 1.45 in BS16.

The Thursday lunch time session is a drop in session where you can get one-to-one help and support for any aspect of your work, including revision, time mangement, planning coursework and essay writing.

On Mondays lunchtime there are freestanding workshops which look at Memory and Revision. This means that if you miss one week you can attend the workshop the next week and not feel left behind.

Evensong at Hereford Cathedral Wednesday 8th February 5.30-6.30pm
The Music Department would like to invite College staff and students to Evensong at Hereford Cathedral. Evensong is one of many services that take place at the Cathedral and all are welcome. The Scholars' Choir will be performing Evensong on Wednesday, 8th February, 5.30-6.30pm.
Timetable Compression Thursday 9th February
Due to the Open Evening being held on Thursday 9th February please note that the timetable has been compressed and the teaching day will be as follows:
  • Block E - 9.00-10.00
  • Block D - 10.05-11.05
  • Break - 11.05 -11.25
  • Block F - 11.25-12.25
  • Lunch - 12.25-1.25
  • Block B - 1.25-2.25
  • Block A - 2.30-3.30.
Library: Half Term Opening Hours
The Library will be OPEN over half term from Monday 13th to Friday 17th February, 10 am to 4 pm.
Blind Football International in Hereford: Team GB v France
n the lead up to the Paralympics thePoint4 will be hosting a fantastic international Blind football event. Taking place on the 4th and 5th of February. The GB squad are taking on France - Kick off on Saturday the 4th is at 2pm and on Sunday the 5th is at 10am. Tickets are just £3 for adults and £1.50 for concessions. University of Liverpool Medical School
Liverpool Medical School are holding their next Taster Day on Wednesday 25th April. Cost is £35 including lunch. All details and link to online booking form can be found on www.liv.ac.uk/medicine/news-and-events/admissions-taster-day.
Meeting Date for all AS Early Applicants
There will be a meeting on Wednesday 8th February at 1.50pm in the Library where you will be shown how to access the advanced research facilities in the Library and shown how to build up a record of extra academic activities on the Subject Enhancement forms.
Criminology Taster Sessions

Interested in studying Criminology at university?

Studying Law, Psychology or Sociology and want to find out more about the subject?

Come along to Criminology taster sessions running on Fridays at 1.15 this term. Covering topics such as criminal profiling, prisons, how infamous criminal cases were solved and many more.

If you are interested please come to the Law office to see Andi or Nicky to put your name down (first-come-served basis as we have limited seating).

Summer School at Royal Veterinary College
The Royal Veterinary College will be holding a Summer School for Year 12 students from Monday 2nd July to Thursday 5th July. It includes accommodation in RVC Halls of Residence and travel costs will be reimbursed. The Summer School is part-funded by the Sutton Trust and certain requirements must be met before you can apply. The deadline for applications is Friday 30th March. More information is available from the Careers Department.
Careers Workshop
There will be a workshop in the Careers teaching room from 1.00-1.30 every Thursday, starting this week, for students who would like work experience or voluntary work.
Media and Journalism Course

Luke Fresle, a TV co-ordinating producer and Rich Welch, a TV floor manager, will be visiting the college this Friday, 3, February, to talk to all students interested in a career in media and journalism.

All students are welcome and you are strongly advised to attend if you are interested in TV or film production, the talk will be at 12.50, room 002.

Debate

Motion: This House believes that it is time for the UK to withdraw from the EU
The DEBATE SOCIETY presents a Debate with a difference!. Guest speakers -Independent MEP Nikki Sinclaire will take on Christine Tinker of the European Movement over the motion "This House believes that it is time for the UK to withdraw from the EU". Students will have ample opportunity to question the panel after speeches. This will be one of the premier events of the year and is applicable to everyone but especially students of Business, Economics, Languages, Politics & Modern History. NOTE the time change die to shortened timetable- 12.30pm on Thursday 9th February on the top floor of the Business block. DO NOT miss it!

Sport

Yoga
Yoga has started, every Monday from 4:15-5:15 in the College's Dance Studio. Yoga is a great way to de-stress after the festive season & during the exam period! Sessions open to all students & staff-£1 for students.
Olympic 5's Football
NEW 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL LEAGUE STARTING AFTER HALF TERM. * Team list, name & details to Hannah (hcm@hereford.ac.uk) * Max 7 players * League starts on THURSDAY 23rd FEB & will run every Thursday from 4.15pm on the astro (half pitch). * Cost £10/team.
