General Studies
You will attend one General Studies lesson per week during your A2 year. These lessons will prepare you for an A level examination based more on analytical skills than on a volume of knowledge. A Level General Studies is recognised by a wide range of higher education institutions and employers. General Studies will also give you a wider knowledge of the world and will help you to develop skills which are of value in other subject areas and in job and course interviews.
The classes will involve active participation and no compulsory work will be set outside class time. However, a willingness to read a good newspaper and/or to take an interest in current affairs will be of great value.
A typical lesson will provide you with factual information and then focus on discussion and/or analysis as required by the A level exam. Many lessons will be based on past papers and examiners’ marking schemes so that you will have a clear idea of the format of the examination.
