GCSE Dance

As with all subjects, this course is open to male and female students. It is available to you in your first or second year at College. This course would suit you if you are interested in ballet, modern or contemporary dance, but it is not ballet-orientated.
Qualifications
You will need some dance experience and a keen interest in contemporary dance is essential.
Modules
You will cover five modules.
- You will perform a set dance.
- You will perform in a duo/group dance.
- You will create a solo choreography based on a list of themes.
- You will create a group/solo choreography using a selection of motifs from a professional work.
- You will complete a written theory paper with questions based on two works - Still Life at the Penguin Café by David Bintley and Swansong by Christopher Bruce.
Study Visits / Fieldwork
There will be workshops during the year with visiting dance companies and the opportunity to see performances by professional dance companies. Regular visits are made to Birmingham Hippodrome to see professional dance works.
After the Course
Dance provides a good foundation for further study in related subject areas such as Theatre Studies, Music, Dance, Drama.
