AS/A Level Art & Design (Textiles)

This is a 'hands-on' course, taught within the Art department. The emphasis is upon a creative approach to Textiles which encourages an understanding of the role of textiles as a medium used by artists, craftspeople and designers. You will follow a broadly-based practical course which allows you to work with many different materials and techniques which leads to an endorsement in Textiles on your A level certificate in Art. You will also look into the social, cultural and historical role textiles and fashion have played in our lives. We encourage you to develop a personal style and to be open-minded, innovative designers. Although this course may be taken alongside other endorsements within the Art department, it is not recommended and would require individual negotiation.
Qualifications
You should have a C grade or above in GCSE Art, Textiles or Design or a very keen interest in Art and Textiles.
Study Visits / Fieldwork
You will have the opportunity to visit local and national exhibitions to help broaden your appreciation of the ways in which textiles have been used throughout history and today. In the second year there is a study visit abroad.
After the Course
Many of our students go on to the Art foundation course at Hereford College of Arts or directly to study on specialist Textiles or Fashion courses.
