Prospective Students: Our Courses

AS/A Level Philosophy & Ethics

Philosophy & Ethics involves learning about the philosophy of religion and about moral philosophy (ethics). You will study classical arguments for God's existence examining the work of great philosophers. You will explore the problem of evil and suffering and how this challenges God's goodness. You will study how compatible religion is with science, examine miracles and study life after death. You will have the opportunity to engage in discussion and debate. You will consider some of the classic theories of morality, and examine whether these theories are absolute or relative. You will then apply these theories to sexual ethical issues, such as marriage and sexual orientation, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses of the theories. Philosophy & Ethics is very thought-provoking, enabling you to question many aspects of belief and to examine issues relevant to today's world. Please note that Christianity is the world religion that underpins the specification. There is no study of other world religions.
