AS/A Level Law
The study at AS of how the English legal system works and how law is made, is followed by the study of "law in action". You learn about the criminal law through the study of the law of assaults and homicide, and about civil law through the study of the law of tort, for instance, negligence. By the time you finish the course, you will know a lot more about how our society works, as well as about the law.
Qualifications
You will need to be able to write clear and logical English and to have an interest in current legal issues such as human rights, equality law and the arguments surrounding criminal justice. You will also need to learn, analyse and apply factual information.
Study Visits / Fieldwork
You will have the opportunity to visit the courts. There are also guest speakers during the year.
After the Course
You can, of course, go on to specialise in Law, but Law is also a good foundation for higher education in general because of the analytical skills it teaches you as well as the way in which it develops your writing skills. Students interested in employment in the police service and court administration, as well as budding legal executives, have found the course very useful.
