AS/A Level French

The course aims to develop a high level of competence in understanding, speaking and writing French and a deeper knowledge of the culture and civilisation of France. You will cover topics at AS dealing with 21st century issues: leisure, education and social issues. At A2, media, environmental issues and contemporary France are also studied. Magazines, newspapers, radio and TV programmes, videos and films are used for classroom and research activities. You will also have access to modern technology including a language laboratory and the Internet.

French makes you think. It encourages you to question your own ideas, put your point of view across and offers you the chance to understand French society and culture more deeply.

Qualifications

You will need at least a grade B in French GCSE and at least a grade B in English Language GCSE and English Literature GCSE.

Study Visits / Fieldwork

You will be strongly encouraged to take part in a week-long residential study visit to Nice, where you will be taught by native speakers.

After the Course

French can help you gain access to top jobs in business, banking/finance, journalism, law, public relations, travel and the Civil Service. French students have gone on to study a wide range of subjects in higher education and some have chosen to specialise in French. The knowledge of a European language enhances your confidence and social skills and increases your career prospects in the European and global market-place.
