GCSE Spanish

The course aims to develop a good level of competence in understanding, speaking and writing Spanish and a deeper knowledge of the culture and civilisation of Spain. You will study topics such as the family, geographical surroundings, house and home, and school life. Magazines, music, TV programmes, videos and films are used for classroom and research activities. You will also have access to modern technology including a language laboratory and the Internet. You will learn in detail the structure of the Spanish language.

Spanish encourages you to communicate with others and offers you the chance to understand Spanish society and culture more deeply.

Qualifications

Past experience has shown that for this course you normally need a grade B in English Language GCSE and a grade B in another Modern Language at GCSE. You will also need a commitment to the study of the Spanish language.

Study Visits / Fieldwork

You will be strongly encouraged to take part in a week-long residential study visit to Spain, where you will be taught by native speakers.

After the Course

Spanish can help you gain access to jobs in business, banking/finance, journalism, law, public relations, travel and the Civil Service.

The knowledge of a European language enhances your confidence and social skills and increases your career prospects in the European and global market-place. Some students progress to Spanish AS in the second year.
