2010-11 Courses
AS/A Level Theology

Theology involves learning about the philosophy of religion and ethics. You will study the classic theories of morality and examine whether these theories are absolute or relative. You will then apply these to sexual ethical issues, such as marriage and sexual orientation, highlighting strengths and weaknesses. You will study classical arguments for God’s existence, examining the work of great philosophers. You will examine the problem of evil and suffering and how this challenges God’s goodness. You will study how compatible religion is with science, and consider miracles and life after death. You will have the opportunity to engage in discussion and debate. Theology is very thoughtprovoking, enabling you to question many aspects of belief and to examine issues relevant to today’s world. Please note that Christianity is the world religion underpinning the specification. There is no study of other world religions.
