AS/A Level Geography (2012-13)

AS/A Level Geography

student taking part in Geography

Geography is a very varied subject which explores a wide range of issues relating to the environments we inhabit and the ways we use (or abuse) them. There is a large practical element to the course so that as well as new ideas you will also be learning new skills. Since Geography is partly a humanities subject and partly a science subject, it is ideal for students following a mainly humanities course who wish to have at least a small amount of science. Equally it is ideal for science students who are looking to broaden their range of interests.

Qualifications

Interest in the subject is as important as academic qualifications. A grade C or above in GCSE Geography is useful but it is not a requirement.

Modules

AS Modules

  • Physical Geography (AS)
  • Human Geography (AS)

A2 Modules

  • Physical and Human Geography (A2)
  • People and the Environment (A2)

Study Visits / Fieldwork

Fieldwork is an integral part of the course. As well as making a number of local excursions you will also be expected to participate in a residential course at the beginning of the A2 course, which last year was to the French Alps.

After the Course

Geography students have gone on to study a wide range of subjects offered in higher education. Geography is highly regarded by employers because of the wide range of skills it incorporates.
