AS/A Level English Literature

On this course you will have the opportunity to read and discuss literature from a range of historical periods. Besides extending your knowledge and enjoyment of literature, you will develop the skills of thinking critically, reading and analysing texts closely and presenting arguments.

Qualifications

You are normally expected to have achieved at least a grade C in GCSE English and to enjoy wider reading.

  • Further and Independent Reading (A2)

Study Visits / Fieldwork

The English Department is committed to enriching the experience of students through its varied programme of activities. These include visits to lectures, plays and workshops. Often these activities are directly related to the texts being studied.

After the Course

English is a useful subject if you are thinking of a degree in Law, Publishing, Education, Creative Writing, Media Studies, Drama, History and any of the Social Sciences, as well as the many courses which have English as an element.
