AS/A Level Drama & Theatre Studies

This course offers you a greater understanding of yourself and others, develops your ability to work in groups, and encourages you to develop your imagination and confidence. It develops self-discipline and a wide variety of theatrical skills, extends and deepens your knowledge of theatre, and encourages a critical response to live performances. You are assessed through performance and design, and through written coursework and papers.

Qualifications

You will need at least a grade C in GCSE English Literature or English Language and the experience of performing either in productions or in drama classes.

  • Performance of Extracts from Published Plays/Devising Original Drama (AS)
  • Response to Live Theatre (AS)
  • Set Text Study (AS)

A2 Modules

  • Performance of Extracts from Published Plays/Devising Original Drama (A2)
  • Set Text Study (double unit) (A2)

Study Visits / Fieldwork

Theatre visits and evening performances are an integral part of the course and all students must attend.

After the Course

A qualification in Drama & Theatre Studies is recognised as a reliable indication of your academic, aesthetic, social and personal development, and leads to a great variety of higher education courses. Former students have gone on to a wide range of careers, including acting, agriculture, stage management, psychology, the media, law, politics, advertising and teaching.
